H.O.G. in the Shadow of Mt. Katahdin is the theme for this year's Maine State H.O.G. Rally. This rustic event will be held at the New England Outdoor Center in Millinocket, Maine which is the home to Mt. Katahdin, Maine's highest peak and one end of the Appalachian Trail System. Join us in some unusual and exciting activities including a guided ride on the "Golden Road," which has never been open to motorcycles! Come with us for some awesome scenery and an opportunity to ride, refresh and rejuvenate with fellow H.O.G.'s at this 14th annual rally.
This wilderness area is easily accessible by Interstate 95 and offers year round adventures from hiking, white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and of course, motorcycling! This is an area for family fun!
Since the Katahdin area has such a rich history of paper making and lumbering, there are several museums available to tell the stories of the local communities. You might be interested in the Antique Snowmobile Museum which is located at the Northern Timber Cruisers clubhouse in Millinocket. The Boom House which is located on Ambejejus Lake is listed as a National Historical Landmark. The Oakfield Railroad Museum in Oakfield is in the original railroad station and takes you back in time to the beginning of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad in 1891. The Patten Lumberman's Museum showcases the bygone days of hard work and the hard life of the "Great North Woods." This museum is located off of Route 11, on Route 159. The Katahdin Ironworks is located on a good gravel road off of Rt. 11 in Milo. This was the site of the first iron works in Maine and has a rich history.
Baxter State Park is NOT accessible by motorcycle but surrounds Mt. Katahdin, the highest peak in Maine and the northernmost point of the Appalachian Trail. This "forever wild" park is one of the best known landmarks in this area and hosts many scenic and hiking opportunities. The "Golden Road" will only be open to State Rally registered attendees on Friday, July 17th during the escorted ride. The section that we will be riding on is paved.
There are many opportunities for boating, wildlife photography, and scenic tours through companies in the region. You can ride via boat, canoe, touring kayak or in the comfort of a van when the motorcycle isn't suitable.
Come on up (or down) to the 14th Annual Maine State H.O.G. Rally in the beautiful Millinocket area where you will be welcomed with opened arms and treated like family! This will be an event that you won't want to miss!
